Construction Specialist
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Construction Specialist to join a challenging and high-impact boardwalk construction project located within the rugged terrain of Stone Mountain State Park, adjacent to a scenic waterfall. The project includes complex rock excavation, concrete placement, steel erection, and precision carpentry, all within a sensitive natural environment. The ideal candidate will bring advanced labor techniques and experience working in remote or mountainous locations.
Key Responsibilities:
Rock Excavation:
Execute precise rock cutting, drilling, and breaking techniques in steep and confined areas using hand tools, hydraulic breakers, and other specialized equipment.Concrete Placement:
Perform structural-grade concrete formwork, reinforcement placement, and precision pours in challenging terrain and variable weather conditions.Steel Erection:
Assemble and erect structural steel components safely and accurately in areas with limited access, often with the support of rigging systems and aerial lifts.Carpentry & Timber Work:
Construct and install elevated wooden boardwalks, platforms, and rail systems to exacting specifications, with a strong understanding of framing and finish techniques.Rigging & Aerial Systems:
Install and operate high lines, skylines, and mechanical rigging systems for material transport and worker access in rugged and vertical environments.Helicopter Coordination:
Assist in load rigging, safety spotting, and precision material placement via helicopter in accordance with FAA and site safety standards.Environmental & Safety Compliance:
Adhere to all safety regulations, fall protection standards, and Leave No Trace environmental practices in a protected park environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
5+ years of field construction experience in mountainous, remote, or high-angle environments.
Demonstrated proficiency with rock excavation techniques and power tools.
Strong understanding of rigging practices, including skyline and high line systems.
Experience working with helicopters in construction settings (load prep and safety).
Ability to read construction drawings and interpret technical specifications.
Comfortable working at heights and in remote, physically demanding conditions.
OSHA 30 Certification (or willing to obtain prior to start).
Valid driverβs license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications:
NCCCO Rigger Certification or equivalent.
Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or Advanced First Aid.
Experience working on public lands (e.g., National or State Parks).
Familiarity with erosion control, water mitigation, and environmental best practices.
Working Conditions:
Physically demanding, outdoor work in steep, wet, and uneven terrain.
Exposure to changing weather conditions.
May require extended stays near the job site; lodging may be provided.
Use of harnesses, helmets, and other PPE daily.
Regular interaction with helicopters and suspended loads.
